Dear West Family,
As you may be aware, parking at West is very limited. We have 98 spots for more than 298 faculty and support staff. With our parking spaces at such a premium, it only makes sense that clear communication of our parking needs to occur. This is why we are taking the time now, at the start of school year 2019-20, to clarify the policy so that everyone knows what the expectations are, and how they will be enforced.
Parking in West High School’s parking lot is reserved for West faculty and staff by permit only from 6:00am to 4:00pm when school is in session. Yearly permits are complementary for faculty and staff and can be obtained at the Welcome Center found at Lower Ash; these must be displayed at all times (a replacement is $10). While the permit does not guarantee the holder a parking spot, it does provide the privilege to park in West’s lot.
Athletic coaches who need to park in the lot before 4:00pm can obtain a seasonal parking pass through the Athletic Secretary in Room 2091. Please note that West parking is closed after 2:00pm on Saturdays. If you are hosting an event, an event permit is required (see the Athletic Secretary for these permits as well).
The parking lot is open from 4:00pm until 11:00pm during school days and permits are not required. Cars parked overnight or found in the lot at 6:00am without a permit will be ticketed.
Do we want to ticket? No. Do we work hard to let you know you need to move your car? Yes. But frankly, given how limited parking is, it is inappropriate for you to claim a space that is not allowed. You will be ticketed if you park in a fire lane, a handicap parking spot without a valid handicap permit, or are in violation of any posted parking regulations (i.e., you block an entrance, park on the grass, etc.). The school will not write waivers or forgiveness letters for violations of this policy.
Thanks, and have a great year!
Karen Boran, Ed.D.
