Resources in Times of Conflict and War

Resources in Times of Conflict and War

Dear MMSD Community,

I write this message feeling many emotions. As our own MMSD community grieves the loss of one of our students, global events are also causing sorrow and pain for so many. I hurt for the innocent people across the world facing violence and terror from the Israel-Hamas war. I hurt for the families trying to keep their children safe. I hurt for the countless people whose lives have been disrupted and who now fear possible attacks. I know many in our community are hurting, too.

It can be difficult for children and young people (and adults) to see these brutal war images on the news, and process what’s happening. There are some news reports encouraging families to limit or temporarily restrict social media use for their children due to concerns about disturbing content potentially being posted and shared on these platforms.

Additionally, our teachers and staff have access to age-appropriate resources, and every school in MMSD has support staff available (such as social workers, psychologists, nurses, and counselors) to help students process their thoughts and emotions. Another resource available to MMSD students and staff and their families is CareSolace, a free and confidential care coordination service for mental health support. We included links (below) to other resources that may be helpful to your family.

We care about you, our MMSD community. If there is anything you need to support your student during this time, please get in touch with their school.

Sincerely,

Lisa Kvistad
