Work Permits

Due to construction, some of our buildings will be closed to all visitors until mid-August. If you need a work permit, please contact the following offices:

  • Bayview Foundation, 601 Bayview – 256-7808
  • Briarpatch Youth Services, 2720 Rimrock Road – 245-2550
  • Commonwealth Development, 1501 Williamson Street – 256-3527
  • Urban League of Greater Madison, 2222 S Park Street – 251-855

We suggest that you call ahead to check on their hours that they are available. 16 and 17 year olds do NOT have to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work. Minors younger than 16 will need to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work. Please note that students will need to bring the following items:

  • A letter from the employer saying he/she has hired you and lists the nature of the business, your job duties, hours of work, and time of day you will work
  • A letter from parent/guardian giving student permission to accept the job (this may be a parent note or signature on the employer’s letter)
  • A Social Security card, or verification of number with insurance or tax form
  • $10
